NaMATA Director General Appointed Vice President – East Africa at UITP

NaMATA is proud to announce that our Director General, Eng. Francis Gitau, has been appointed as Vice President – East Africa of the Union Internationale des Transports Publics (UITP). This appointment places Eng. Gitau within the leadership of the world’s leading network for public transport, an association comprising over 1,900 member organisations across 100 countries.

A seasoned civil engineer with over 30 years of expertise in infrastructure and urban mobility, Eng. Gitau joins a distinguished global leadership team alongside UITP President Renée Amilcar and Secretary General Mohamed Mezghani. His role serves to further solidify the East African region’s establishment on the global stage, especially as urban centres navigate rapid population growth and the urgent requirement for sustainable, high-capacity transit solutions.

This recognition is a testament to Eng. Gitau’s leadership at NaMATA and his commitment to the professionalisation of the transport sector. It reinforces the East African region’s established capacity to contribute to global mobility discourse and highlights a continued dedication to building inclusive, resilient, and visionary public transport systems that meet the needs of a modern metropolitan population.
